If-Only
“If -Only oozes its toxic sludge into my vulnerable brain
His flashy suit of fin silk slowly morphs into sooy rags
Delighted with the muddy mush he has left behind.”
I apologize for the gross picture I have painted.
My intention had been just the opposite.
Originally I imagined all the fun, lovely and lively outcomes if-only I had made different choices.
But then I spent several hours with a young dad and his children.
Oh, how I wished I had behaved differently as a young woman. If only I had been more patient, more kind, worked harder, …
a fellow in a radio program said he gets upset when people say, “if only I had chosen — such and such my life would be much better.”
He said, “You don’t know that. “
We make hundreds of choices every day. We have no idea of the outcome.
Therefore, I, Maggie aka Gramma C, will look at my life through the lens of Gratitude … Thank God I made the choice to move, to have chosen good friends, to do these activities, etc.
So, how about you?
Are you kicking yourself or rejoicing?
Let’s not waste precious time thinking, “If Only.

Brave words. Wise words to cleanse the trauma of younger years.
Such a powerful thought--thanks for writing this and sharing so honestly, Gramma C. :)
